Updated Footprint shows benefit of Grease Car and PVs

With two steps, our footprint drops 33%

UPDATE:
Our Photovoltaic installation - now online (14 March 2008) - will further reduce the Coldham&Hartman Architects footprint, to 22.37 acres which, including the Grease Car, is a full one-third reduction over the course of a year.

While we are still wary of using the footprinting method in business situations (see the original posting), the comparative reductions are real and visible this way.

EARLIER:
With one single change, our Ecological Footprint is drastically reduced.

Late this summer, our long-distance commuter changed her transportation choice. She bought an old Mercedes deisel and had it outfitted with a Grease Car kit, enabling it to consume Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) instead of Diesel fuel. Though the rehabilitation of an old car was not without its trials, she has become the number one NON-consumer of resources in our office, beating out even our walk-to-work partner, since he does consume transport resources with his Prius on business trips.

See below the before and after pie charts of our footprint.

Total Footprint Before: 33.7 acres

Total Footprint After: 25.15 acres (a 26% decrease!)

Total Footprint March 08: 22.37 acres (down by 33% since Summer 07)
