Coldham&Hartman work highlighted on AIA/Green Building tour on Mount Desert Island
Two of three standout “green” sites demonstrate work of Coldham&Hartman Architects
On Friday April 11th, 35 students from the University of Maine, Augusta toured three sites on Mount Desert, with Architect John Gordon, AIA (Gordon|Stanley Architecture). The sites included a biological lab, the College of the Atlantic’s Student Housing, and the Northeast Creek project for workforce housing.

Designed to give students a first-hand look at green building standards in the real world, the tour looked at some cutting edge applications on Mount Desert. At the College of the Atlantic, the Coldham&Hartman Architects-designed Student Housing has achieved an extraordinary level of air-tightness and boasts a whole-building design aimed at energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and ecological sensitivity.
The development at Northeast Creek, an affordable housing project for the Bar Harbor Housing Authority, was begun by C&H, and we engaged local architects Gordon | Stanley Architecture as the Architect of Record. We have supported Gordon | Stanley in achieving air tightness standards that will become commonplace in this region into the future. Based on designs used at Rocky Hill Cohousing in Florence, MA, the Northeast Creek development aims to provide housing that significantly exceeds the Energy Star guidelines for new homes.
